Probate & Estate Administration

If you are the Executor for a loved one, you will have to go through probate and sort out the Estate. This can be a daunting and expensive process because you will be responsible for all the legal and tax affairs that need sorting out. You may need to sell property, fill in HMRC tax forms, pay debts, sort out bank accounts, investments and so on. This is made particularly difficult because the person who arranged everything is no longer with you.

You are legally responsible for getting everything right. If you make a mistake with any part of it, you can be liable, that means you could have to pay up (even though you are not a professional). A beneficiary can claim off you personally if anything is wrong. If you make a mistake on the tax form, or make errors in the accounts, make bad investment decisions or miss a bill that should have been paid. Even if a payment is made to the wrong person, or too much is handed over then you can be personally responsible for making up any loss.

This is really difficult, especially when you are coming to terms with losing someone and coping with the trauma to the family.

Instead, we recommend that you let us take care of it for you from day one. You can rest assured that we are always on top of what needs to be done. We have specialist tax and legal teams who can advise on anything, even the most complex situations. We do it for families in any circumstances, however large or complex the estate.
